FAQs
Orders and delivery
-
Sorry to hear you haven’t received your order yet. We ship most of our orders via Royal Mail Tracked 24 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and they usually arrive the next day. However, sometimes there can be delays and we appreciate your patience.
You should have received an email with tracking information which tells you where your item is located. We suggest confirming the delivery address is correct and if it is ask your neighbours whether they might have received your parcel on your behalf.
If an unreasonable amount of time has passed (i.e. more than 3 weeks) and there isn’t an update on your order, please contact us on orders@ritualcacao.co.uk and we’ll do our best to help you.
-
We are still shipping to EU countries. However rules and regulations vary from country to country, so depending on where you are and the size of your parcel, there might be some custom duties to pay. You can find more information here.
Cacao is considered a food item and does not incur VAT, but other products like our cup, books or the Goddess statue will, so be aware of this when placing your order. For non-UK orders, the VAT cost will be refunded.
-
Some countries with an unreliable postal service might require us to ship via DHL. If you don’t see your country on the countries list at checkout, contact us on orders@ritualcacao.co.uk and we’ll double check this for you.

Cacao
-
We offer two types of cacao:
the Peruvian cacao, which comes from the Peruvian Amazon, where they cultivate Criollo beans;
the Ecuadorian cacao, made from the Arriba Nacional / Fino de Aroma cacao bean in Ecuador.
Ecuadorian cacao is light, smooth and silky, making it the perfect introduction for those who are new to cacao. We find Ecuadorian cacao is slightly less bitter than Peruvian cacao, and if you drink cacao regularly, you may start to notice distinctions in flavour, texture and how the cacao affects your meditation or shamanic journey. Each cacao has its own personality and it's quite literally a matter of taste as to which cacao medicine suits you best! :) If you’ve never tried either cacao, why not start with our taster pack to see which one you prefer?
-
100% pure organic cacao is by its very nature bitter because it has nothing added to it. Best used in smoothies, as a hot drink or can be added to sauces, stews and casseroles to add a kick!
-
To make a drink for one person, bring about 250ml of water (or your favourite alternative milk) to the boil and add 20-25g (recommended daily dose) of finely chopped cacao. Simmer while constantly stirring until the cacao has totally dissolved. Enjoy <3
-
You need 42g of Cacao Liquor and 250ml water per person. Bring water to the boil and once it’s boiling add the cacao and stir until it dissolves; bring the water to simmer and stir till the mixture has thickened. It is advised not to frequently use Cacao ceremonially as 42g can be heavy on the adrenals after a while.
-
Cacao can be used to spice up food, added to smoothies or sprinkled over porridge to give you a powerful boost. Get creative with your cacao!
-
Cacao can be sweetened as per your taste; a few drops of food grade essential oils can be added, as well as spices and chilli to flavour it.
-
Store in an airtight container in a cool dark dry cupboard, or the fridge if it's too warm. It can also be put in the freezer to prolong its shelf life.
-
We suggest up to a year if stored correctly, and if you put it in the freezer it can last up to two years. Your package will have a ‘best before date’.
-
If your cacao looks whitish, there is nothing to worry about. This is called fat blooming, which happens when the cocoa butter separates from the rest of the cacao components. The cacao is still edible - simply prepare as normal. We recommend storing your cacao in an airtight container in a cool dark dry cupboard to reduce the likelihood of this happening.
Health
-
Yes, our cacao is vegan.
-
Cacao is generally safe to drink and not a typical allergen. It does have a significant caffeine content (though less than coffee), so bear this in mind if you are usually sensitive to caffeine.
If you’re uncertain whether or not cacao is right for you, best to check with your doctor first.
-
It is not advised to have cacao if you’re taking antidepressants. Cacao contains an amino acid called tryptophan, which is the precursor to serotonin (the neurotransmitter in charge of your mood). If mixed, it can dangerously increase your serotonin levels, creating unpleasant side effects.
If you’re uncertain whether or not cacao is right for you, best to check with your doctor first.
-
There isn’t a right or wrong answer. Each body reacts differently to cacao. Cacao contains theobromine, which is the active ingredient in it and acts similarly to caffeine. If you already drink caffeinated drinks, you should be ok to drink cacao. If you are sensitive, a milder dose would be better.
If you’re uncertain whether or not cacao is right for you, best to check with your doctor first.
