🌍 Making Better Choices Ritual 🌍
A Cacao Ritual For Earth Day (April 22nd)
Why Earth Day Matters To Us At Ritual Cacao
Earth Day is more than a symbolic date. It is a critical reminder that humanity exists within a complex, fragile, interdependent system. Every drop of water, every breath of air, and every cacao bean harvested is a product of the Earth’s finely tuned ecological balance.
Yet, in an era of mass consumption, intensifying climate instability, and corporate greenwashing, this balance is under severe strain. The effects of climate change are not abstract concepts; they are tangible, measurable, and deeply disruptive.
Cacao farmers across Africa, Central America, and South America are witnessing firsthand the consequences, unpredictable weather patterns, accelerated crop diseases, and extreme droughts and floods threatening their livelihoods.
These disruptions directly impact the availability and sustainability of cacao, a crop with cultural, economic, and ecological significance and an essential food for human health and wellbeing.
This Earth Day, our commitment must extend beyond a single observance. It must translate into informed, long-term decisions that prioritise environmental resilience.
When you buy from Ritual Cacao you can be sure you are supporting ethical sourcing, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable consumption.
We contribute to a system that not only protects cacao farmers but also ensures the protection of ancient heirloom cacao beans and traditional agricultural livelihoods.
The planet does not need symbolic gestures; it needs action rooted in science, responsibility, and long-term thinking. Every choice matters, now more than ever, and choosing Ritual Cacao helps to guarantee the long term future of pure ceremonial-grade cacao.
The Ritual
You will need:
42g ceremonial cup of Ritual Cacao (time to go deep)
A notebook + pen
A candle (ideally unscented or beeswax)
Natural objects, for an offering to the earth and a keepsake for you (stones, leafs, feathers, etc, but something natural and from the earth)
A quiet space to reflect (ideally outdoors if you can get out)
🍫 Step 1: Make Your Cacao
As you prepare the cacao, bring your full awareness to the process. From bean to cup, this cacao carries the hands of farmers, the power of the land, and the spirit of the Earth. Stir slowly and as the cacao melts into a rich, smooth drink, whisper this intention (or your own): “Every day, I choose a better future for myself, my family and future generations.”

Once you’ve finished cooking up your ceremonial cacao brew, pop it in your flask or to-go cup and set off on your journey to your quiet space in nature. You can do this in your garden, a favourite nearby park, your secret spot - wherever feels best and where you feel safe and connected.
✨ Step 2: Prepare Your Space
When you’ve reached your destination and made yourself comfortable, find the two natural objects you will need for the ritual, from the land. Light your candle, and arrange your objects around the candle, as a symbol of your connection to the Earth. Sit with your cacao and take three deep breaths…
💚 Step 3: Sip + Reflect
Take your first sip slowly and mindfully. Let its warmth flood your chest and open your heart.
While you drink your cacao, feel it flowing around your body. Imagine it flowing into your heart and expanding. Feel your heart opening and filling with love.
Tune into the Cacao Spirit and ask her what guidance and clarity she has for you regarding these questions:
What choices do I make that support the Earth?
What choices do I make that harm her, directly or indirectly?
What is one simple shift I can commit to today, that honours the planet?
Write down the answers and be honest. This isn’t about guilt! It’s about growth, and using cacao as a powerful heart opening tool to help us see things clearly, and make different choices.
🌱 Step 4: Commit
When you're ready, hold one of your chosen objects in your hand and speak one of your commitments aloud, and into the object. Choose a different object for each commitment. For example:
“I commit to buying less plastic.”
“I commit to supporting regenerative farming.”
“I commit to being a conscious consumer.”
“I commit to supporting small businesses over large corporations.”
Take the object you’ve chosen as your offering, and return it to the Earth, gently, intentionally, as you speak your promise aloud. Let this act seal your commitment to making better choices for our planet.
Take your one of the token home with you and place it on your altar, or somewhere you'll see it often. Let it be a gentle, daily reminder of the commitments you've made to yourself, cacao, and the earth.
🧡 Step 5: Close in Gratitude
Finish your cacao with gratitude for the Earth, for cacao, and for your ability to choose how you live your life.
Every action matters.
Every choice counts.
Every thought plants a seed.
You’re not just one person. You’re part of a ripple effect.
As you carry the choices you made with this ritual into the rest of your day, week, month… remember that the choices we make, no matter how small, shape the world we live in.
Let your daily ritual become action, and your awareness become practice, and allow it to deepen your connection to cacao, to the Earth, and to yourself.
