Connecting to the Ancestors Ritual
This season is a powerful moment to conduct a ritual ceremony to take us through the portal to connect to the ancestors.
Prepare the altar, by strewing some marigold petals around a candle, so that it serves as a focus point. Those marigolds, called cempasúchil in Mexico, are believed to draw back deceased family members by their brightness and intense scent, so they serve as a pathway to invite ancestral spirits to join us.
Prepare your cup of Cacao mindfully and with intention. This is a way of focusing our minds, expressing gratitude for life, for our ancestors who were part of our creations, and anyone specific you want to connect with. This turns it from a habitual cup of hot chocolate, to a ceremonial cup of Cacao.
Once you have said your intentions, you can offer forgiveness, love and compassion to all spirits, living and dead, and ask for your eyes to see beyond the veil.
As we drink, we can remind ourselves of the long train of ancestors, leading us to this existence, this moment, this self, and then set our intentions for the future, inviting love and compassion to take root in us, asking for the power and knowledge of the past to illuminate our future.
