Q: Where does your Cocao come from? Our Cacao comes from tribes, in the Peruvian and Ecuadorian Amazon, where they cultivate Criollo beans. There are three types of of bean; Triniterio is the most common type, Forastero is the next most common, with Criollo being the rarest of the Cacao beans. It is said to be the most flavoursome of all three. Our Cacao is raw, organic and non-GMO.

Does Cacao taste like ordinary chocolate? No, it’s nothing like chocolate. 100% pure organic cacao is by it's very nature bitter because it has nothing added to it. Best used in smoothies, as a hot drink or can be added to sauces, stews and casseroles to add a kick!

Do I have to drink it hot or can the cacao be made up in any other way? Cacao can be used to spice up food, added to smoothies or sprinkled over porridge to give you a powerful boost! Get creative with your cacao!

How do we cook the cacao? To make a drink, bring abut 200ml of water to the boil and add 20-30ml of finely chopped cacao, bring back to the boil and then simmer while constantly stirring until the cacao has totally dissolved. Serves 1.

Can I add anything to the cacao? Cacao can be sweetened with your choice of sweetner, a few drops of food grade essential oils can also be added, as well as spices and chilli to flavour it.

Is this product suitable for vegetarians and vegans? Yes our Cacao is vegan.

Is there anything I should know before drinking cacao? Cacao has a significant caffeine content (though less than coffee) that can increase the heart rate if you are sensitive. Some people are allergic or sensitive to Theobromine, the active ingredient in Cacao that trigger headaches or migraines. It can also affect your sleeping patterns if you are sensitive to it.

What’s the deal with SSRI’s and Anti-depressants? Serotonin is a chemical your body produces that's needed for your nerve cells and brain to function. Cacao naturally releases seratonin into the brain that can affect the seratonin being released chemically by the SSRI’s. Too much serotonin causes extreme migraines.

How should I store my cacao? Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry cupboard, or the fridge if its too warm. It can also be put in the freezer to prolong its shelf life.

Does it have an expiry date? We suggest one year but it can be much longer if stored correctly, and if you put it in the freezer it can last up to two years.
